Continue the Story. It’s not just who we are, it’s what we do. Our mission is to build stronger families impacted by the prison system. This mission is based on our belief that every person has a story and no matter what chapter you find yourself in, you have the power to write the ending.

Maybe you feel stuck. Maybe you have tripped up. Maybe you feel like your story is on pause. That is the very essence of Continue the Story. At some point, we all hit a road bump or worse right into a wall, and we feel our lives and our stories are over. There doesn’t seem to be a way we could be back to normal.

Here’s the truth. You may not make it back to what your normal was, but you can create a new normal. Even more, this new normal has the potential to change the world around us. We have the ability to reclaim our story and write an ending that we are proud of.

When life does not go according to plan – whether you go to prison, fight an addiction, become a victim of crime, go through a divorce, lose a loved one, lose your job, become homeless, or wherever your story has led you – your story is not over… it is just beginning.

Our Story

What We do.

Continue the Story comes alongside families that are impacted by the prison system. Over 2.7 million children in the United States have a parent that is in prison. The lives of those children are instantly and drastically changed for no fault of their own. Research suggests that intervening in the lives of parents in prison and their children help to preserve and strengthen positive family connections. As a result, it can lower the chances of lasting psychological and emotional trauma for their children.

why we do it.

Imagine the difference we could make in the world. By helping the families impacted by the prison system, we could not only change their lives, we could begin to rewrite the perceptions of those in prison. Everyone deserves to be loved. That includes those who are not “perfect.” We have the ability to give people in prison a chance to rewrite their stories and give them hope for the future. Join us as we help those in prison to not only be rehabilitated but also to find redemption. Let’s give them the tools to continue their story.

A Note From Our Founder

Continue the Story is truly one of those doors that opened as another shut on my face. I know what it’s like to make mistakes so big that you lose everything and hurt many people as a result. To be honest, most of my life I never thought about the people who were in prison. I never had a reason to.

However, that all changed when I found myself sitting behind bars after a mistake that has now defined my entire life. It was in that experience, that I saw good people who were simply lost and hurting. They were not monsters and neither was I. However, media today tells us that people in prison deserve to be there and that they are these terrible human beings. I remember seeing these “tough” guys wipe away the tears as they kissed a picture of their baby girl goodnight and a thought entered my mind that I could not get rid of. How many families are broken because of the prison system?

It was in that moment, that the dream of Continue the Story was first planted. I wanted to find creative ways to build stronger families that were impacted by the prison system. I wanted to uncover unique ways of helping prisoners transition into their new lives and have all the resources they need to continue their story. No matter our past, we have the ability to write a future that can change the world.

There’s not a day that goes by that I don’t think of all the hurt I have caused. I know I cannot change the past, but I can change my future. My story and your story are not over… they are just beginning!
